The fortunes of war and history were not always kind to Castle Tioram. It wsa attacked during a Clan dispute in 1554; and captured by Oliver Cromwell in 1651. In 1715 it was burned by the Jacobites to prevent it from being used by Government forces.

Castle Tioram and the Silver Walk. The castle is thought to originate from the thirteenth century and was the home of the MacRuaris, one of the main branches of the descendants of Somerled, the original Lord of the Isles, who first united the western isles and the hebrides.

The name of the walk Silver Walk is so called due to a hoard of Elizabethan silver coins which where found when the estate workers were creating the path.

This is a remarkable path which traverses the coastline, the path takes you up and down rocky steps and paths some with steep drops on the side.

This is a walk that is well worth the effort with excellent views all round a must on anyones list of walks.
